Bangkok, a city of vibrant energy and towering skyscrapers, can sometimes feel overwhelming. But for travelers with a fear of elevators, navigating this bustling metropolis can be a daunting prospect. The good news? Bangkok offers a surprising number of charming, low-rise hotels that prioritize stair access, ensuring a stress-free and enjoyable stay for even the most elevator-averse adventurer.
I’ve always been a bit of a stair climber myself. The idea of being confined in a small, enclosed space while soaring high above the ground just doesn’t appeal to me. So, during my recent trip to Bangkok, I made a conscious effort to seek out hotels with easily accessible stairs. I stayed in each one of these hotels and took the stairs to my room daily. Be sure to ask for a second floor room if possible to avoid multiple flights of stairs to upper floors.
Chillax Resort Bangkok ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This charming little gem is nestled in the Old Town, putting you within easy reach of stunning temples and the vibrant Khao San Road. The Chillax is a budget-friendly option with a focus on comfort and relaxation. With only four floors, climbing the stairs is a breeze. The stairwell itself is clean, well-lit, and even aesthetically pleasing. I stayed on the second floor and accessing my room was a breeze without ever having to step on an elevator.
The hotel boasts a fantastic breakfast buffet and a large rooftop pool offering sweeping views of the Bangkok skyline. While some commented the the traditional Thai interiors were a little cheezy, I think they added a touch of local charm.

While not overly fancy, the Stable Lodge provides comfortable rooms with essential amenities like room service, fridges, and efficient air conditioning. Most importantly, the beds are incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep after a day of exploring the city. While the bathrooms are dated, they are clean and the hot water works perfectly. While the rooms themselves are quite basic and the beds a bit firm, the stylish ambiance and convenient location make it a popular choice for travelers seeking a unique and fashionable stay. And of course, the low-rise design ensures easy stair access for those who prefer to avoid elevators. There is a pretty pool that has a deep end on the ground floor which does get some limited sun during the day.
The Miami Hotel Bangkok offers pool access rooms which will guarantee you are on the ground floor but I do want to mention the toilet and shower were not separated in the room I had.
